A Journey Through Time
Appleton Estate: A History is a tapestry of untold stories woven together to create a captivating journey through the Estate’s rich and storied past. Beginning with the cultivation of sugar cane and culminating in the world-renowned brand of Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum, this book takes us on a journey through centuries of ownership, from the Dickinson family to the present-day Campari Group.
This volume is based on extensive research commissioned by J. Wray & Nephew Limited, conducted by a distinguished team from the Centre of Reparations Research at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona, under the leadership of Professor Verene Shepherd, with the contributions of Ahmed Reid, Gabrielle Hemmings, and John Shorter. The book provides a factual account of the Estate’s history, drawing on verifiable sources and presenting a meticulously researched and documented portrayal of its past.
